APE is an arts-based social/cultural enterprise that supports underrepresented artists and promotes equitable arts-oriented development. Founder and principal of APE, Kamaal Martin is currently “curator-in-residence” at JWC’s office in Sherman Heights. Before starting APE in 2020, he had over a decade of professional experience in politics, government and non-profit sectors. Through this pilot program in partnership with JWC, he curated exhibitions featuring Jean Cornwell Wheat, Andrew Alcasid, and Nahla Valdez in 2021.

Art Power Equity Exhibition: Jean Cornwell-Wheat
Join us for an exhibition of works by 77-year-old, San Diego-based painter, sculptor, and multimedia artist Jean Cornwell-Wheat, shown in a landmark, historic Sherman Heights home. Experience the interplay of historic Victorian architecture and artworks from one of San Diego's most versatile, contemporary, African-American artists. Limited capacity tours will be offered throughout Design Week, hosted by Kamaal Martin of Art, Power, Equity.
