Connecting Wildlands and Communities: Designing for Climate Change

Connected landscapes can support adaptation and resilience to climate change for both ecosystems and local communities – this has been the focus of an interdisciplinary research project in Southern California for the past two years. However, the importance of connection extends beyond the data.

Audrey Carver

To bridge the gap between science and its application in the community, the Connecting Wildlands and Communities (CWC) project brings together four local artists with its team of planners, environmental engineers, ecologists, and geographers in an intentional effort to better translate climate data and the stories behind it.

Join us for a virtual conversation with this collaborative team to hear their unique views on “connection,” exploring how people, landscapes, and data can come together to influence the final products and the critical role design plays in advancing a community-centered approach to a climate-resilient future.

About the host

Climate Science Alliance

The Climate Science Alliance’s mission is to safeguard natural and human communities in the face of a changing climate. We do this through leading activities and creating partnerships which increase awareness of climate change impacts, promote solutions, and facilitate action.

The Climate Science Alliance sees the arts as a valuable tool for communicating and disseminating climate science to diverse audiences because it cuts across culture, age, education level, and socioeconomic status. Through its Art and Community Initiative, they are bridging the gap between research and application through art and artists.
